Thursday Morning Coffee Ride - Rei To Alum Rock (Jose Higuera Adobe With Shortcuts!)

Thursday, December 01, 2022

REI, 43962 Fremont Blvd, Fremont, CA 94538, USA (map) DescriptionLength: 34 miles (with shortcuts of -17mi, -7mi, -5mi, -3mi); 1400 ft elevation gain Terrain: 2, 3; Pace: T, M 0 Sign in at 9:30 a.m. and roll at 9:45 a.m. 0 Since REI isn't open, please use the facilities at Starbucks or wait until we reach the more familiar Jose Higuera Adobe in Milpitas.  0 We are riding to Alum Rock along the beautiful foothills. This is a route with lots of flexibility --  to push yourself or take it easy and stretch your legs -- whichever you like. Take Shortcut 1 directly to coffee and cut your mileage by 17.  Shortcut 2 cuts out 7 miles if you choose to ride to the park entrance (restrooms) then turn around..  Or you may go directly to the set of restrooms at the Youth Center and cut out 5 miles and significant climbing using Shortcut 3.  You may continue on the route, decide to skip Miguelito and only do Inspiration Loop (Shortcut 4, -3miles) or you may be in great shape and do the whole 34miles!  Please review the route sheet and map in advance and be prepared to follow your plan as we won't be chasing anyone down.  Better yet, find a friend with the same plan and stick together. No one left behind.  If you get delayed or lost, please text a ride leader. 0 If you want to do the climbing, consider turning around when you see the faster riders returning OR bring yourself to coffee on your own.  0 We will have lunch at Peet’s/Erik’s in Milpitas Town Center ($) before heading back on a flat route, with no regroups.  0 Here's the route:  https://ridewithgps.com/routes/40635530 0 Please download and print your own cue sheet.  Click on the RidewithGPS link, click the "More" menu at the top-left, select "Print Map and Cue PDF" and click "Print Official".  0 Disclaimer This is a no drop ride but the group can be on the larger side and will break up as we progress along the route especially as it is a T/M ride.  Riders are expected to be proficient in following their route sheet or using their GPS in case they are separated. We will wait at regroups for all riders, though  0 Extreme temperatures, poor air quality, park closure, construction, rain and/or high winds,  or the whim of the ride leader may modify or cancel the route. Check here for updates: info@ffbc.groups.io. 0 Ride Leaders Primary:  A primary ride leader is needed.  Please contact Randy if you are willing. Co-leader:  Randy Fewell, jailteacher@comcast.net, (510) 468-6963  9:30am – 1:30pm
