The Santa Rosa Cycling Club was staging a ride from the same starting point, but no one knew Tony Rominger was with the Polli's so they didn't see him. Ron Gray was telling me he rode with Tony for a while, who seemed like a great guy. Tony predicted Lance Armstrong would do well in the up-coming Tour de France and didn't think Bobby Julich was up to form. There we about 30 riders on the ride and could have been more if we had known Tony was going to be there. He left shortly after the ride to fly to Phoenix with his wife and daughter. Then he went to France to do TDF commentary for Eurosports. It's too bad so few cyclists knew about it. |
