8th Amstel Curacao - Contador wins

Alberto Contador once again proved too strong for his rivals and took the win in the 8th edition of the Amstel Curacao race repeating his victory in 2007 finishing alone

The two time winner of the Tour de France escaped just before the finish at the Lions Dive & Beach Resort. Contador at the time was leading the escape of of three with Thor Hushovd and Koos Moerenhout who had attacked under the initiative of the Dutch Champion. Only Contador and Hushovd could respond to Moerenhout who led the attack on the climb over the Juliana Bridge.

The sprint for 4th place was won by Mark Cavendish over Kenny van Hummel and Edvald Boasson Hagen.

The race seemed in jeopardy when a local tropical cloudburst poured down buckets of rain on the riders soaking the roads making the roads slick. Luckily the deluge was short lived and the riders were able to continue with the race.
